Deep in the rainforest of the Amazon is an ancient plant that has been
used for generations by Peruvian Indians to treat a variety of health
problems. Although clinical trials with Uña de Gato (Cat's Claw) are
somewhat limited, anecdotal and word-of-mouth reports praise the plant as
one of the most beneficial substances in our medicine chest for today
aliments.
Cat's Claw belongs to the botanical genus Uncaria tomentosa. Its generic name is derived from Uncus, the Latin word for hook, since all members of this species have large, curved thorns somewhat resembling a cat's claw.
Only recently have holistic practitioners in the United States begun using
Cat's Claw in their practice, but already they are reporting that the herb
- in tablets, capsules, tea or applied topically - has antioxidant
properties that can reportedly be useful in treating arthritis, allergies,
herpes, intestinal upsets such as gastritis, premenstrual syndrome, some
forms or cancer, ulcers, AIDS, and for boosting the immune system, among
other things.
Our Ashani (aka Vida-Life) brand of Cat's Claw (Uña de Gato)
is certified 100% Uncaria tomentosa by the
Department of Pharmacy and Biochemistry,
Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos in Lima, Peru.
